The tiny chapel became dilapidated and a new chapel was built at Killerton by Sir Thomas Dyke Acland, in 1841. After Sir Thomas died, his second son Arthur, an enthusiast for church architecture, restored the old family chapel at Columbjohn, which the family continued to use for burials.
The processional way from Killerton House to this chapel, which was also a public right of way, no longer exists.
Columbjohn Chapel and Churchyard Wall are Grade II listed, under the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 as amended for its special architectural or historic interest.
