Leith Old Cemetery
Also known as Jericho Cemetery
Grytviken, South Georgia And The South Sa
The Leith "old" cemetery sits in the middle of the abandoned whaling station.
When the whaling station was in use, it was located about a quarter-mile further North and the cemetery was on a bare hillside. A landslide buried part of the original whaling station, hence its nickname "Jericho'.
The newer Leith cemetery was consecrated in 1917, when this "old" cemetery became full.
