Linger awhile and walk with me into the shadowy mist that was yesterday. Stroll across the faded pages of history and from our hardships learn the ways of a better life. Pass me not for I am the spirit of your ancestors. In your veins flow my blood and the blood of my fathers. Linger awhile, if only for a moment and through your thoughts I will know I am remembered.
Pleasant Hill Cemetery is an old African-American Cemetery that is located in the back of the church.
There are about 250 burials in the cemetery. Many of the headstone/markers are falling over, broken, or the markers are nearly completely invisible. Some graves no longer marking a grave itself or sunken in the ground. There are a few unmarked graves with only a bouquet of flowers, wooden crosses and funeral home markers (some rusted without names or dates) in the cemetery. Weather elements and tree sap has deteriorated the quality and appearance of some headstones.
Pleasant Hill Cemetery is an important link to past and an everlasting reminder of the contributions and sacrifices made by the souls interred at the cemetery. It is a memorial to those who have gone before us; former slaves, pastors, business owners, to those who served our Country that shaped towns, cities, and made them into the place where they lived.
