Judge Leonard Tarrant moved to Mardisville in 1834 to act as Indian Agent and superintend the sale of the Creek reservation land. He lived in a "dog trot" two-room log house on a hill west of Mardisville until his death in 1862. He was buried in a nearby plot, which was marked with a lilac shrub, and joined by his wife following her death in 1878. The Harmons, an African American family, later acquired the property and were laying their family members to rest here as early as 1900. In 1956 a stone was placed over the gravesite of Judge Tarrant and his wife by the Andrew Jackson Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).
Information about this cemetery was taken from "Historic Tales of Talladega", c. 1959 by E. Grace Jemison, and the Mary A. Taylor Collection in the Armstrong-Osborne Public Library, Talladega, Alabama.
