Jackson Girls Cemetery
Jones County, Georgia, USA
When President Franklin D. Roosevelt established the Refuge in 1939, the eroded and worn-out land was largely abandoned. The cumulative effects of the Civil War, boll weevil, and Depression had devastated the farmers. The Government purchased most of the land for $1 to $2 an acre, and dismantled the houses.
Cemetery has appx 22 unmarked graves.
From Ga. Hwy. 11 in Round Oak take the Round Oak/Juliette Rd. west approx. 5.8 miles to a Piedmont road on the right just prior to Flat Rock Church. Turn right and travel approx. 2 miles to a 'T' intersection in the road. Turn left at the 'T' and proceed straight through the first intersection to another 'T' or approx. 1.4 miles. Turn left and travel to the next road to the right. Turn right and travel past the Garland Cemetery or approx. 400 yards to a depression in the road. To the left of the depression in the road, you will see a faint sign of an old road once you leave the existing road. Follow this faint road about 150 yards to the cemetery.
