One of the early churches in Perry County.
The Reformed and Lutheran Congregations purchased the original 1 and 1/2 acres for the Log Union Church from Jacob Lupfer for $12.00 with additional land being purchased in later years. In June 1798, each able member of both congregations brough one or more suitable logs of white pine, oak, or poplar, and the "raising" took place on Jun 19, 1798. The dimensions of the church were 36' X 30'. Even though heavy crossbeams had been inserted for a gallery, it was not completed until 22 years later. Although the building had a roof, there were no windowpanes, doors, floorboards, or a stove for the next four years. Members worshiped in the partially built church during the warmer months and in the homes of members during the winter. The congregation say on wood slabs laid accross blocks swen from logs while the minister preached from behind a small wooden table. In 1855, each congregation agreed to build their own church and the old Log Union Church was dismantled in December 1857.
Peter Moses was the first person buried here and Mr. Cless was the 2nd person buried here.
