ground on the Howard Decker
farm below Roxbury, above the
gravel bank. There are about 30
stones there, but most are simple
fieldstones without an inscription
There is one stone with names
and dates. This is a marble slab,
even with the ground, which says
"Amos Parker, died October 5,
1831, age 52 years, 8 mohths, 11
days. Also Harriet, daughter of
Amos and Elizabeth Parker, who
died June 19, 1823, age 1 year,
months, 25 days." i
Little is known of the Parker
family, which was evidently
pioneer one. They must have been
related to Jemima Parker, who
married Dr. Oliver Underwood
Roxbury's first doctor, who died
in 1845 after 40 yeárs of service
to early Roxbury.
There áre the remains of a sizable
stone foundation near the old
cemetery, which could have been
a large house; we know of no
church in th a t locality.
Mr. Decker says th a t there are
several other foundations of build
ings on the farm .. One of them
has a rosebush, which blooms each
year. This bush planted over a
century ago to add cheer and
color to a pioneer family's life,
has outlived the family, the house
where it lived, and its memory.
