Add PhotosHistory of the burial ground from 1964 when its future was discussed in the UK Parliament:
"The ground is situated off the Bayswater Road in the Metropolitan Borough of Paddington on land opposite Hyde Park and was bought in 1762. It consists of slightly more than 5 acres. The southern frontage of the land is let on long building leases and is not affected by the Bill, which is concerned only with the land at the back which was laid out by the parish as a burial ground and consecrated in 1765. It was closed for burials by an Order in Council in 1854, 110 years ago."
Later, the area was used for archery, games and as allotments. The land was owned by St George's Church in Hanover Square, which had a parish cemetery on the site. The church sold the land to developers in 1967, who left a few tombstones, adding character to the gardens. It is from this historic background that St. George's Fields takes its name and not called St. George Hanover Burial Ground. In the 21st century, the property is a unique community consisting of 300 apartments, which were built in the 1970s on garden-like grounds. It is known that some of the remains were removed from this site and buried elsewhere, while other remains removed and cremated.
Please make memorials here only for burials listed in the StGHS parish registers from April 1765 through 16 Mar 1854. This burial ground was removed and built over in 1969, so there is nothing to photograph. Later and earlier burials from the registers should be memorialized in the appropriate FindAGrave cemetery listings.

This Bayswater Road parish burial ground was the second of three for St George's, Hanover Square, parish church. It was used from May 1765 through 16 Mar 1854. Parish Registers are available on ancestry.com. While burials ceased on 16 Mar 1854, it wasn't until May 1860 that the vaults were permanently bricked in and the ground covered over. After that, the ground remained an "open green space", until 1969, when it was sold for building development. There is nothing left to photograph.
In March 1859, the "Morning Herald" (London) ran this ad: "SAINT GEORGE, HANOVER-SQUARE. BURIAL VAULTS of the Churches and Chapels situate in this Parish. NOTICE is HEREBY GIVEN, that, pursuant to an Order of the Privy Countil, bearing date the 11th day of January, 1859, the Churchwardens are about to take the necessary steps for completely COVERING all the COFFINS deposted in the vaults beneath the Bayswater-road Burial Ground, Grosvenor Chapel, South Audley-street, Hanover Chapel, Regent-street, St. Peter's Church, Eaton-square, and St. Mark's Chapel, North Audley-street, in the manner directed by the said order, and to brick up or otherwise securely and permanently close the said vaults. It is therefore requested that all parties entitled to and desirous to remove the body of any person interred in any of the vaults above enumerated will give notice in writing of their intention so to do to the undersigned, on or before the first day of May next, and in default of such notice and proceeding thereon they will be deprived of the power of such removal, or of having access to the vaults. And further Notice is hereby Given, that from and after the first day of June next [1859] all access to the above-mentioned will be definitively closed, except for the purpose of carrying out the instructions contained in her Majesty's Order in Council." Another paper reported that "the coffins in the vaults" at the places listed above "be buried four feet beneath the several vaults, or embedded and covered with charcoal, and entombed in brick-work in an air-tight manner". Before remains could be removed by relatives or friends, a license costing £8 was required per body.
