Trinity Cemetery at Lambert
Lambert, Georgetown County, South Carolina, USA
This cemetery for black residents of the Lamberttown community was established in 1932 by William Benjamin Lambert Jr. when he established the adjacent Lambert Cemetery for white members of the community.
Trinity Cemetery has two tombstones. Sunken earth indicates unmarked graves. Approximately a dozen funeral home markers with no remaining legend stand at some of the graves.
TREES HIDE THE CEMETERY FROM SATELLITE VIEW. ON SATELLITE VIEW, LAMBERT CEMETERY APPEARS TO BE TWO CEMETERIES BECAUSE A LOW OPEN AREA SEPARATES TWO PARTS ON WHICH GRAVES ARE VISIBLE. NEITHER PART VISIBLE FROM ABOVE IS TRINITY CEMETERY.
Although in recent years this burial ground sometimes has been called Giles Cemetery, death certificates indicate that folk buried here knew it as Trinity Cemetery.
Burials occurred in the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s. Some may have been more recent, but in 2013 the cemetery is seldom if ever used. Most of the families who buried members there have moved away from the community.
Trinity Church stood beside Walker Road approximately a mile from the cemetery. The church was on Rural Route 1, Georgetown, SC. Now that route numbers are no longer used, its address would be on Walker Road. The church was in use in the 1940s but now is in ruins. The roof has fallen in, one concrete block wall has collapsed, and pine trees have grown around the rubble. That was its appearance in March 2013.
The ruins are on the north side of Walker Road, less than a tenth of a mile east of the entrance to Willie Road.
