A Presbyterian Church was organized in 1830 by a group living southeast of the Ridge. The congregation was small but they were able to erect a log church which was used for over thirty years. In 1874, a frame building was constructed. It was called "Mount Horeb" and was also known as the Bethel Presbyterian Church. The church was supported by members of the Lyle family consisting of Finley, William, James G., J.R., Samnuel and Catharine. Nathan Shaw lived across the pike from the church and William P. Stewart had his farmhouse south of Shaw's. Philip D. Hook, J.W. Hook and Ben Hook all lived in the area. Burials were made as late as 1943 when Julia Rotroff, born in 1854 passed away. Philip Hook, 1845 - 1921, a member of Co. H. 149th Reg., O.V.I., was also buried in the small cemetery near the church. The Bethel schoolhouse was located a short distance south of the Presbyterian Church. There were three large sawmills in operation near the church and school soon after the Civil War.



The cemetery is located in Concord Township, Highland County, Ohio, and is # 5164 (Bethel Cemetery) in "Ohio Cemeteries 1803-2003", compiled by the Ohio Genealogical Society.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) feature ID for the cemetery is 1806542 (Bethel Cemetery).
