In 1658, Trent Hall Neck was granted to Major Thomas Truman, a member of the Maryland Council. It was situated immediately on the Patuxent River at the terminus of the road leading from Charlotte Hall to the Trent Hall wharf. The plantation has been owned by the Truman, Greenfield, Briscoe and Thomas families for many generations. A private cemetery with tombstones dating from 1672 remains on the property.

At Trent Hall, there are some very solid and handsome tombs, or rather, what is left of them for they are in such a state of neglect. There are 2 upright and four are in a corner near the fence and are badly broken. These gravestones were among the oldest discovered in Maryland. A tenant that farmed the property destroyed the remaining gravestones and only a few chunks remain.

This was the last known survey that included a mention of gravestones, and she included the graves that are mentioned on this site.
