Created sometime in 1972. There are 48 known gravesites of African-American workers who bored Hawks Nest Tunnel through pure silica between March 1930 and December 1931. Each of the graves are said to contain more than one body. The graves were originally on the nearby White Farm. Most of the workers died of silicosis. Forgotten for over forty years, the land was used as a dumping site. Though the efforts of many, the cemetery is now being improved and reclaimed.
