Family Cemetery on Private Property

Property Owner's Permission Required
Family cemetery of Ann Eliza Taylor and John Murray Yates of Shady Grove who arrived in Caswell County NC in 1854. This family cemetery does not have a survey of record.
In the vicinity of 1123 Shady Grove Road.
Carolina Caswell determined the possible location of this cemetery by "This cemetery is on private property: the Carter house (John Thomas (Jake) Carter, Jr.) is located at 1123 Shady Grove Road, Caswell County, North Carolina, approximately halfway between Seamster Road and Highway 86. It is on the south side of the road. The Yates Family Cemetery is in a small grove to the northeast of the house. A slave cemetery is on the edge of a field southwest of the house. The original Yates plantation was called Shady Grove. Jake Carter's father, John Thomas Carter, Sr., moved the original house when he bought the property in 1928 and erected a large brick house on the site. The original house remains, but has fallen into ruin. The first Yates of this family in Caswell County was John Murray Yates, Jr. (1812-1891), who in 1854 moved to Caswell County from Mecklenburg County, Virginia (just north of Chase City). This Yates family is not believed related to any of the other Yates families in Caswell County as they apparently descend from a sailor who settled originally in Norfolk, Virginia." This cemetery does not have a survey of record in the J. Burch Blaylock Collection.
