Garnizona kapi

Getting there:
From Riga city center, take tram 11 toward Mezaparks/Ezermalas iela. Get off at the Bralu kapi stop. When you get off, look behind you and to the left. You will see a street going to the right lined with flower vendor stalls - this is Aizsaulies iela. Go past this on Gaujas, the first cemetery you will come to is Mikela kapi, Garnizona is just a little further down the street. There is no sign but you will see a lawn with a monument and several markers in front of it at the end of the lawn when you look through the gates.
Established in the 1880's and includes the Alexander heights hospital cemetery. Over time, the Garnizona kapi merged into the Mikela kapi. The defining lines can be seen on the plat map located in front of the chapel in Mikela kapi. Other than the paths, there is no division to the cemeteries.
The cemetery holds military who served in the Russian, Red and Soviet Armies and is a monument of Russian history in the Baltic States. Some of the graves have been reused when Russian soldiers were buried on top of Soviet military.
There are several monuments within the cemetery to the unnamed from different periods who are buried there.
