Rucker Cemetery
Forest Hills, Davidson County, Tennessee, USA
Not to be confused with the Benjamin Franklin Rucker Cemetery on Edmondson Road. Transcription for that cemetery is found in the .
The cemetery was originally established on the farm of William and Betsy Billings Bumpass, who were buried here before re-interment at Mt Olivet by two of their daughters. Their farm was inherited by daughter Tennessee Bumpass Rucker and her descendants, who lived on it until sale of the property to developers in the 1960s.
This cemetery remained active until at least 1950, and was destroyed during subdivision construction. Not all graves were marked, and tombstones that did exist were removed during development while the graves remained on site.
The cemetery was variously reported on death records as "7 miles [out of Nashville on] Granny White [Pike]" or as 9 miles out (which may or may not be a reference to the Taylor-Hayes Cemetery). Also recorded on death certificates as "family cemetery" and at least once as "Family Burial Garden."
Please note that this cemetery is inactive. There were no burials after sale of the property for development, and no markers remain at the original location, if at all. However, memorials to those who were interred at the cemetery--neighbors, friends and family--are welcome here.
This list of interments is a work-in-progress. Persons with additional information are invited to email contributor Harriet W Berry.
