Ebenezer Church was organized & built in 1853 as Ebenezer Methodist Episcopal Church, South. A clear deed to about 11 acres of land was recorded in 1855. Osborn G. Foard & his brother, Dr. John F. Foard, donated the land & material for the church.
Starting in 1939, the church was known as "Ebenezer Methodist Church." It remained this until 1968 when it was changed to Ebenezer United Methodist Church.
In 1967, during the pastorate of Rev. W. W. Pryor, the church sanctuary was rebuilt.
In 2023, Ebenezer decided to break away from the UMC; changing their name & becoming "Ebenezer Church."
Ebenezer Church cemetery, which is on the west side of Hwy 801, across the road from the church; includes burials of many members & non-members of the church.
The first burial was in June 1854 of Ann F. Foard; second wife of Osborn Foard, one of the men who donated the lands & materials. Her grave is often mistaken to be Osborn's.
Numerous members of the Nail, Correll, & Kluttz families are buried in Ebenezer cemetery. Along with many unmarked burials of former church members.
It is said that many slaves & Indians are buried around the cemetery in unmarked graves. Small, brick-sized stones mark only a few of them.
