On Green Road in Steeles Township west of Ellerbe, there is a Greene Cemetery sign on the left side of the road as you are headed north. Turn left on the dirt road, then turn right on a dirt road with a sign attached to a gate across the road. The cemetery is at the top of the hill. The cemetery is well kept with a burial in the last ten years. It seems to be a family cemetery, with others buried there also. From Jane Greene: I was down at this cemetery in 1993 and again around 1995 . At that time there were considerably more stones, but the graveyard was also somewhat unkempt and in a heavily wooded area. It was almost completely shaded by a pine tree canopy. We visited the cemetery recently and much has changed. Someone has obviously has put in A LOT of work into it and it is well kept. The two most significant changes we noted, the majority of the pine tree cover is gone and many of the much older graves are no longer marked. I have added to the listing the graves that were there 20 years ago but are no longer there now. It was pointed out to us that in the last 20 years this area has handled some major weather events which did considerable damage to some of the wooded areas. The relative with us indicated that if the number of pines that used to cover the cemetery had come down , it was likely several of the stones would have been destroyed. Such damage might explain the recent work on the cemetery and the new stones on a few of the graves which are 100 years old.
