At the turn of the century Kelso Ca was a thriving railroad community that mostly existed to provide steam trains with water. Then during the second World War, it thrived as iron ore was mined in the area and loaded on trains for steel. When trains no longer needed to stop for water, the little town died and most of the inhabitants left. The cemetery was written about in the 1940ies by Earl Buie, a historian and columnist for the Sun Tribune in San Bernardino. He told that the white
crosses behind the white picket fence were mostly the victims of the 1918 flu epidemic.
Now there are a few pickets and a cross, but according to the National Park Service that runs the restored depot, they hired an archeologist who found there were no bones in the cemetery. They think a flash flood may have destroyed it.
The Chinese man who is listed was a train worker and not buried in the Cemetery. Asked about his grave and they said they didn't know where but other have mentioned seeing it.
