Brampton Plantation Cemetery
Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia, USA
The Brampton Plantation was the "inspirational center" from which the first Negro Baptist Church in America arose. Jonathan Bryan was extremely concerned with the lives of his slaves. He encouraged them to hold religious services, which were eventually held in the barns at Brampton Plantation. The preacher for the slaves was Andrew Bryan, also a slave. Out of this church came two churches: the First African Baptist Church and the First Bryan Baptist Church, both in Savannah.
This is but one of the Savannah River plantations that has been consumed by industry. The land is currently the property of the National Gypsum Company, whose employees maintain the cemetery.
