First Parish Meeting House Cemetery is a historic burying ground located on Route 108 in Newfields, New Hampshire, on a slight rise of uphill land adjacent to the larger, and later-established, Newfields Cemetery, and across from a gas station convenience store. The two cemeteries share a common entry lane. The First Parish Meeting House Cemetery is situated on a slight hill, above the nearby railroad junction; thus, the reference in an older publication to, "Cemetery at the Junction." Land was deeded to the parish in 1734 for a burying ground, according to the Rev. James Hill Fitts, who also noted in his history of the town of Newfields, New Hampshire, that the oldest burial markers erected were for one person who died in 1741 and another in 1749 ("History of Newfields, New Hampshire 1638-1911," by Rev. James Hill Fitts, Ed. by Rev. N. F. Carter, pub. The Rumford Press, Concord, NH, 1912). Buried here are representatives from many of the early Newfields families, including those who served in the American Revolution, War of 1812, and Civil War. In 1898, approximately 160 years after the First Parish Meeting House land was designated for a cemetery, the Town of Newfields established an expansion, named Newfields Cemetery, on land adjacent to the First Parish Meeting House cemetery. The First Parish Meeting House Cemetery is surrounded on three sides by a low stone wall and the Newfields Cemetery is bordered by a chain link fence. The two cemeteries share a common entry lane off of Route 108.
