Wrote photo volunteer Bob Thomas in 2012: "I biked up and down the road and couldn't see any sign of the Locust Grove Cemetery. I saw an old man outside working on his car. I asked him if he knew of the cemetery. He did and he gave me some details about an abandoned road that used to pass the cemetery. He also told me who owned the land that surrounded the cemetery so I could ask permission to go on the land and see what was left of the cemetery.
Recently some Amish or Mennonite folks have moved in and were working on building a school house almost across the road. I asked them if they were the landowners but they weren't. I went down to the property across from the cemetery. There was a man tedding and windrowing hay that had been mowed a few days ago behind a two horse rig. One boy was riding with him and two boys were watching him work. Actually he was taking a break and resting his horses in the shade when I went by for the third time. He told me how to get to the cemetery and that he had been up there. Some stones were still up and legible.
As I went into the woods I saw a deer walking up the hill.
There was a very chilling inscription on a stone for a young man who died at only 19 years old. The boy died in late September almost 180 years ago. It is amazing that the stone is still legible.
This is a really amazing story. I still couldn't see the graveyard from the remaining road even knowing where it was."
