In 1852 James Veitch bought 132 acres from the Canada Company, but later in the same year he sold this land to John Plaetzer. On Nov. 4, 1872 (registered 4/12/1872) John Plaetzer et ux deeded ¾ acre to the trustees of the Evangelical Association of Hullett.
From a diary in the possession of Art Youngblut of Goderich we find that in 1910: May 8th, Rev. Holman preached his first sermon at the German Evangelical Church. He was the last minister to preach at the church.
1912: May 26th – the German Evangelical Church was closed.
1914: Nov. 24th – they moved the furnishings from the church.
The church was sold to Mr. Sam Keeny down the side road.
According to a booklet, The History of Hullett Township, 1848-1977, "this church was taken over by Council and cleaned up a few years ago. All the stones have been mounted on a cement platform." In this same booklet, the German Evangelical Church is incorrectly referred to as a Lutheran church. Presumably this error occurred because many of the stones are written in German dialect.
According to local people the records for this church were transferred to a church in the Sebringville area when the church closed. A local minister supplied the information that the archives of former Evangelical Association churches is presently (1982) found at Zion Church, Weber Street, Kitchener, Ontario.
