The burials at this location date from 1910-1996, with only six after the 1930s, and lie in a rather narrow strip between Ascension of Our Lord Byzantine Catholic Cemetery and St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Cemetery. There are no markers as to where one cemetery begins and the other ends. However, the direction in which the graves face offers a clue. In St. Mary's, as in Ascension Byzantine, the graves face east in accordance with religious tradition. They run perpendicular to Worthington Ave. and parallel to 12th & 13th Sts. They stand at a ninety-degree angle to those in St. Clare.
Most of the burials are quite old (from the teens, twenties and thirties) and the stones are almost exclusively in Cyrillic script. A number have photos and some give the deceased's village of origin. There are two Greek Orthodox burials here as well, although the majority of the deceased seem to have been born in Serbia, Bosnia or Montenegro, or were Orthodox Croatians. Some give the names of family members or fraternal organizations responsible for supplying their grave markers. Many are very worn and a couple are weathered so badly that they are unreadable.
For access to the graves, one must enter the cemetery either through the Ascension gate or through the St. Clare gate since it has no separate entrance.
Most Serbs local to the Clairton area are now buried in St. Sava's, in Mount Vernon in Elizabeth, or in Jefferson Memorial Park. Some were also buried in Round Hill in Elizabeth.
