Old Jimmy Likins Cemetery
Martin, Grant County, West Virginia, USA
This cemetery is located on the sons of the late Herbert Leatherman. It is off of the Poplar school House road on the East Side. This land is known as the Cephus McNemar place. His wife, Mary Frances was a daughter of Jimmy Likins. In the late 60s or early 70s some of the descendents of Susan Likins Rotruck placed a monument for her. She was the daughter of old Jimmy Likins and the wife of Hiram Rotruck. Hiram is buried in the John Rotruck cemetery. May Harris told me that in this cemetery were buried the people of old Jimmy Likins. My uncle, Odell Leatherman told me that a lot of babies were buried here. The only person that any one knew for sure that was here was Susan Likins Rotruck. In doing Likins genealogy we can almost assume that these may be buried here. There are around 13 to 15 sunken areas in the ground with only slate rocks to mark the graves. The Likins family was large landholders but there must have been no money to place a monument for their love ones.
According to information that has been told to us, Old James Likins is buried in an unmarked grave down in the field below the cemetery that his father is buried in along Knobley Road. Why he was buried down in the field and so far from the one his father is in we have no idea. Why he was not buried over with his family on the home place, we have no idea either.
