Add PhotosBy 1914 the property belonged to Isabella Rands. Joseph Fallon of the town of Wingham was the Priest. The feeling among the Brussels Parishioners that a cemetery was needed. Some had been buried in parishes around but more had been buried in Protestant Cemeteries.
On the February 20, 1915 the transaction of purchase of part of the south half of the lot 1 con. 12 Grey Twp. Was bought from Isabella Rands, for St. Ambrose R.C. Cemetery for the price of $200.
The first burial was Miss Anna Christine Cooper died October 31, 1915. Robert Dark was the first caretaker. He dug and cared for the graves. Relatives of the deceased paid him directly. From 1937 to the fifties an annual collection was taken up at St. Ambrose R.C. Church for the cemetery. This amounted to just enough to pay the caretaker. In 1964 the cemetery area was properly landscaped. A large cross was erected. As March 1950, $2.00 was collected from each family for upkeep. In 1964 a board was appointed by Rev. Mooney, By-laws and rate of tariffs were approved. On July 24, 1966 the old fence was moved back to the proper position, braces installed and stretch wire finished the new fence. On September 4, 1966 the Blessing of the Cemetery Service was done.
To the Brussels Cemetery, Burial Chapel Building Find rom St. Ambrose R.C. Church $100. Total cost of the Chapel $6,700. Municipality and Public &4,800. February 1970 Roy Cousins was approached reguarding grass cutting., monument foundations, grave digging for adults, youth and children.
In July 1979 new posts and a cable were to replace the rundown fence. In 1981 a new cross was erected. It was decided to keep the same rates as the Brussels Cemetery. St. Ambrose is a member of the Roman Catholic Episcopal Corporation of the Diocese of London in the Province of Ontario,
