This cemetery is located close to the intersection of Harrison Road and North Wenas Road, about 1.4 miles from downtown Selah.
It was part of George S. Taylor's early land holdings and has passed through several owners, but was originally deaded to the People of Selah.
It is not owned or maintained by the City of Selah.
The Selah Valley Garden Club restored the cemetery in 1972 and the Boy Scouts cleaned it in 1999. It gets mowed a few times a year and is occassionally watered. Most headstones are missing. Some general ones have been erected by local organizations but no names are placed on them.
The record of burials is divided into two parts:
The first covers the names of 16 of those who were buried in some of the 27 unmarked graves that are known to exist. The names of those 16 have been culled from families in the area, newspapers, etc. Each of these 27 graves appear to be marked with a plain white wooden cross.
The second part covers the 16 graves which are marked with stones. (Total number of graves 43.)
This listing includes information published by the Yakima Valley Genealogy Society. Permission for the use of that published information was granted by YVGS on November 6, 1999.
Just inside the entrance to the cemetery is a plaque erected by the Selah Valley Garden Club in 1973 "In Memory Of" those
that are known to be buried in the cemetery, but whose grave
location is unknown. The following names are listed on that plaque.
