A little history

Brothers Valley Glades aka Stony Creek Glades included what is now the townships of Brothers Valley, Stony Creek, Quemahoning, Jenner, Lincoln, Somerset, Jefferson, Milford & Black. This area was a large opening of rich natural grasses in the dense forest where deer, elk & probably at one time buffaloe fed
Spring 1776 the Sweitzer Christian Yoder family, One of 1st families to move to the (now extinct) Amish settlement, the Glades, (aka Brothers Valley Glades aka Stony Creek Glades) Somerset Co, PA
Marker reads:
Old Yoder Cem
This cemetery lies on the original homestead of "Sweitzer" Christian Yoder (c1728 - 1816). He purchased a 606 acre plot in Somerset Co on Oct 9, 1775 for $968. Christian brought his large family from Berks Co & was a founder of "the Glades" Amish congregation. He originally arrived at Philadelphia on the ship "Frances and Elizabeth" on Sep 21, 1742.
Son John Yoder purchased the homestead in 1796. John & his wife Barbara rest under the two of the only marked graves in this cemetery. It is likely that "Sweitzer" Christian & many other descendants lie under the unmarked stones.
