Erected by the
Town of Groveland. 1896
By the late nineteenth century, the site had become so overgrown as to be lost to observation. It was also noted that except for the foot stone at the grave of William Greenough all the slate markers had "crumbled". In 1894, a committee was appointed by the town to consider the creation of a memorial over the graves.
The Massachusetts Historical Commission refers to this cemetery in MACRIS as GRV.801 Groveland Small Pox Burial Ground.
This cemetery is referred to as GR3 Burial Place of the small pox victims, at East Bradford, afterwards Groveland in the "Vital Records of Bradford Massachusetts to the end of the year 1849".
