Tarpley Shop is a Civil War burial location five miles south of the town of Pulaski in Giles County, Tennessee. Members of the 7th Kentucky Mounted Infantry died in battle and were buried at this site on September 27, 1864 as part of Forrest's Pulaski Raid. Records suggest that a monument inscribed with the names of the fallen, which was dedicated on November 2, 1912, may now be missing.
The inscription on the monument read as follows:
DIED IN THE PERFORMANCE OF A FAITHFUL SERVICE
ON THE MORNING OF SEPTEMBER 27, 1864
THE SEVENTH KENTUCKY MOUNTED INFANTRY,
FORRESTS' CAVALRY, CONFEDERATE STATES ARMY ENGAGED THE ENEMY ON THIS FIELD,
AND THE FOLLOWING IS A LIST OF ITS DEAD,
WHOSE REMAINS REPOSE NEAR THIS STONE.
