In the fall of 1843, Simeon Whatley MEADOWS bought at administrator's sale, a large and fairly good place in Heard County, known as the old Wood place, between Newnan and Franklin, in Heard County. It contained about 800 acres and the residence was on an eminence between two small creeks that ran through the place.
It was more than a mile from any public road and three miles from any church or school and the bold rock spring was a quarter of a mile from the house.
He retained the plantation as long as he lived. It was sold at executor's sale and purchased by the husband of a granddaughter of the old Wood patriarch.
About 120 yards from the old Wood house there was a graveyard where the old Wood parents and several others of the Wood family were buried. This was near Bethel Church near Cooksville, Georgia.
