Munnerlyn Cemetery
Ariel Cross Road, Marion County, South Carolina, USA
NOTE: this cemetery was plowed over in the 1940's. The DAR had recorded them before it was destroyed. The info from William Charles Sweet is just a little bit in error....that John Munnerlyn is not the John who came from
Ireland, but either his son or grandson.
Compiler's note:- "There are several graves which have no markers, and are said by family tradition to be the graves of John Munnerlyn who came to America from Ireland some years before the Revolution in which he served under Gen. Francis Marion, and his wife Sarah Keen Munnerlyn. They both died in 1821 or 1822. Sarah Keen Munnerlyn died about 2 months after her husband.
This information was gained from a deposition made by their grand-son, William Charles Sweet, who was born in Marion County on March 26, 1817. His father was Gospero Sweet, and his mother's maiden name was Anne Munnerlyn and Sarah Keen, daughter of Buckingham Keen. Gospero Sweet, and his wife and children left Marion Co., for Florida, where they settled at Concord. This is the ancestral line of Margaret Mitchell, author of "Gone With the Wind".
