--------------------------------------------------------------
The origin of the Cottageville Cemetery and the Colored Fox Cemetery early in 1885. Three men who were prominent in the Cottageville Methodist Church (also known at that time as Round 0 Methodist Chapel) set forth on horseback one Sunday afternoon to select a site for a cemetery to serve their families and the new growing Cottageville community. These men were Reverend Doctor George Peirce, Captain Ben Willis (who was also a doctor) and Doctor A. E. Williams. As they selected and agreed upon the present site. Reverend Peirce dismounted and prayed a prayer. consecrating this spot for its intended use. The land belonged to Mrs. Anna Adams Willis, mother of Captain Ben Willis. Mrs. Willis agreed with the decision of the men and noted that the colored people needed a burial place also. She instructed that two acres of land across the branch be used for them. The colored cemetery is known as the Fox Cemetery. Not to be confused with the existing Fox Cemetery used by white people. This cemetery is still in use today.
