The site is located on County Road 18, 1/2 mile west of Highway 67, between Granite Falls and Echo.
The "Battle of Wood Lake" was misnamed. The actual battle took place at Lone Tree Lake, which has since disappeared. General Sibley's guide mistook the location for Wood Lake, which was about three and a half miles to the west.
