The location of the individual graves is unmarked, indeed unknown.
In July of 1894 the Athens Reporter stated that "after years of persistent agitation, careful consideration and deliberate decision, the counties council of "Leeds and Grenville have decided to erect a home for the poor and unfortunate of the counties"
A "House of Industry" was built on Highway # 42 and officially opened on November 27, 1895..
Those who died while inmates of the House of Industry and whose bodies remained unclaimed, were buried "on the farm back of the home".
There could be many more - when deaths occurred in winter time, the bodies were placed in the Athens vault, to await burial in the spring. The records do not indicate the eventual place of disposal of these bodies - that is, if they were claimed by relatives and friends, or, unclaimed were "buried on the famr"
When management of the House of Industry was assumed by Mr. & Mrs. Dan McConnell in 1946, the new managers rejected with rightous indignation the practice of "burial on the farm", and made arrangements for future burials of unclaimed bodies in a special plot in the nearby Glen Elbe Cemetery. A plaque was erected on the farm grounds to indicate that burials had been made in the past.
