Borders Truman Lake
This cemetery/burying ground is not accessible by car, and there may no longer be evidence of its existence. It is along the edge of Truman Lake project, in a swampy area and is part of the Corps of Engineers managed/posted land.
Anyone searching for this burying ground should consider going in the winter when the ground is frozen, and the brush died off. If looking for it at any other time, an ATV may be required, plus protection from ticks, mossies and snakes.
There are/were two other nearby Parks family burial grounds. William Parks cemetery is also basically lost to the Truman Lake project and is no longer accessible or maintained. The Remains from Peyton Parks cemetery were removed to Calhoun Cemetery in the late 1960s unless family members specified a different location. The original location is now covered by Truman Lake. It is unclear why this one was known as the Samuel Parks cemetery, altho it may have been on land owned by the Samuel Parks buried here, who died in 1855, or by the Samuel Parks (son of Catherine and brother of William and Peyton), who later moved to Texas where he is interred.
Thanks goes to Linda, the Henry Co. co-ordinator for providing on-line lists for this and all other Henry Co. cemeteries. The lists provide an excellent base from which to build a history for the interred.
