The Stewart Cemetery is on land originally granted to William Stewart (1,200 acres) and now owned by the Hoard family north of Morgantown on Route 119. William Stewart (born about 1727 in Ireland, died 10 February 1811) is buried in the cemetery. The cemetery is located in the woods off of Ridenhour road (gravel and rough) off Route 119 several hundred yards south of the Pennsylvania border. The woods are so dense you have to know exactly where to look to find the tombstones. The cemetery has not been maintained for many years. Most of the burial locations in the cemetery are marked with field stones (may be as many as 50 field stone markers) but some Stewart and Hoard tombstones exist. Some of the tombstones are broken. Large trees in the woods have disturbed some of the burial locations. When the land was timbered in the 1980s the cemetery was not cleared. War memorial markers for the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812 on individual graves which were present in October 2008 were missing in October 2009. The pegs for the markers were still in the ground but the markers themselves were unscrewed and removed. I find that very irritating. Last visited in October 2009. Ronald L. Stewart
