It is located west of French Knob (now Ritchey Knob shown on the USGS map as the peak on the southwestern end of Harbor Mountain) in West Providence Township. The USGS map "Everett East" confirms the cemetery location is not in Hopewell. It is located in the loopback just above the Hogback of the Juniata River. It is east of Ritchey Bridge on Ritchey Bridge Road. Confirming period feature references: 1878 Atlas of Bedford County, 1861 Bedford County Landowner Map, and the newer USGS 7.5 degree map.
UPDATE: After historical research of homesteads, the location, the analysis of the graves at this site, the surviving children's homesteads in 1861, and the Adam Ritchey will; it appears that this cemetery should be called the Adam Ritchey Farm Cemetery and he was the first Ritchey owner of this land. Of course this rules out the James French Family as the first owner for which French's Knob was named and French's Run (Creek). Just what land James, Jeremiah, Daniel, Ralph, and Lott French owned is not clear but it was close to this cemetery. See PA Archives, Series III, Vol II, page 26 or search "Allequippa Ridge" in google. Steven French is marked as owning the land in the Hogback. James French owned land on both sides of the Juniata and passed some to Lot C. French in this exact area. The residual land of James French bordered John Manspeaker, Reason Manspeaker, and the land in WP owned by Jacob Foor known as Richland. This French land was along the Juniata and along the west edge of EP and included the delta of French's Run, a saw mill, and a small cabin. Adam's land was origianlly Livingstone land. Jacob Foor got his land from some of Adam's land known as Richland (Short for Richey-land?).
This cemetery was never on the 400 acres of land owned by Simon C. Ritchey. Simon lived near French Creek Road and Division Road and way east of this location. Simon lived north of the pioneer family's land of John "" Richey and his wife Susanna French. Adam Hinish lived along French Creek Road south of Simon C. Ritchey and north of John Richey. John Swartz lived north of Simon and south of Harbor Mountain by Burnt Church.
When Adam Ritchey died, this cemetery land passed to his son Daniel Ritchey. Daniel was also known as Muskrat Dan and Dan by the River. John Richey's land passed to James Ritchey before 1877 or 1880. This James is not 1700s militiaman, Ensign James Richey.
UPDATE II: On May 22, 2009 I visited this Adam Ritchey Farm Cemetery. The current owner of the farm and their son and his school classmates removed all the trees and underbrush. At least 27 markers or monuments are now reset, repaired, or stacked up. There may be as many as 29 markers. An additional 20-30 reddish field stones were stacked up. Some monuments were replaced or erected by current descendants. Some stone markers were found that were buried in 1992. I photographed the most important features in the cemetery in color. Some of these markers are clearly foot stones and not separate graves. Of the 27 markers discovered or the now 24 upright markers, only 18-20 are grave "head stone" markers of some kind. That's almost twice what Imler reported. Some markers are photographed from the front and the back sides.
The black and white photographs are from ca 1992-1994 and should be kept to show the original context of the cemetery back then. The lack of a B&W photograph means that the marker was buried by the 1990s or was not a formal monument. Imler in the 1900s gave a listing of these 'hidden' gravestones. No marker or initials for Naomi French, her dad Daniel French, or Mrs Daniel French were found.
