Trinity United Brethren Church Cemetery
McKees Half Falls, Snyder County, Pennsylvania, USA
Dunkelberger's "History of Snyder County" provides the following description. The church was erected in 1860 as a union church used by the United Brethren and Methodist Episcopal sects. It was a two story structure which was abondoned about the turn of the century. The bell was moved to the Paradise church in Chapman twp (and today, 2008, also not in use).
The cemetery was adjoing the church, and today has been cleared of brush. There can be seen something of a depression in the ground where the church once stood. The land is privately owned, and has gone through several different uses. Luckily the plot is too small to build on, which was the intent at one time. Some of the headstones may also have been moved over the years.
(This information from a local resident who at one time owned the land.)
There is a complete transcirption of extent stones as of 1900 published by Wagenseller in "Tombstones of Snyder County". I have listed all the stones I could find on June 12, 2008, when I visited. Dates were pulled from the Wagenseller listings. Will attempt to get an area type photo on my next visit.
UPDATE: June, 2011 Added the area photo. This poor cemetery has gone through more changes. Stones have been moved, but the grass/weeds are being cut. The Prescilla Hoffman stone appears to be gone. I've added updated photos for some stones. Please note, if you have someone you think is buried here - and the photo is not already loaded on Find A Grave - I'm sorry to say the gravesite is no longer marked.
