Christopher Robinson, Nancy Robinson's Father, bought the land in 1815.
When Christopher Robinson died, the land was passed down to his wife, Mary. The land of which the Dorman Cemetery sits on was described in 1827, as having forty-five acres of cleared land with comfortable cabins, stables, cribs, in tolerable good repair, a good orchard of apple, peach, & cherry trees, and a good sugar orchard. After the death of Christopher Robinson, his widow, Mary Lafferty, married John Lane. After Mary's death in 1823, John Lane took control of the property. John tried to sell the property in 1827. John Lane's seizure and subsequent sale of the land resulted in litigation between him and his stepdaughter Nancy Robinson. Nancy married William Dorman. She and her husband, William Dorman, hired Mr. Abraham Lincoln,(Future 16th president of the United States) a lawyer, in 1841 to represent them in the Illinois Supreme Court. Their client-lawyer relationship lasted until 1852, when Lincoln won the Land back for the Dorman's. It is said that Nancy was wanted the land very badly because her Father, Christopher Robinson and Mother and other family members was buried on the land.
