A few years after the Civil War, Daniel N. Kees (1837-1928), purchased land and began farming in the town of Jones Springs. Daniel and his wife, Lucinda Kees, sold 1/4 acre for a dollar to the trustees of Jones Spring Methodist Episcopal Church on Oct. 11, 1895. Near the end of his life, Daniel once again transferred more land to the church known as "Kees Grove" and established a small parcel from his farm for the use as a burial ground with the condition that it was not to be sold until after his death. Daniel appointed three trustees; Robert L. Kees, T.H. Avey and Nelson F. Kees to oversee the sale of grave lots and the maintenance of the graveyard.
This 215 acre farm, which the cemetery was part of, was transferred to Joseph L. Kees in 1929 and then to James N. Stuckey in 1961. After Stuckey's death, his heirs, in a "deed of gift" without consideration, transferred ownership of the .78 acre graveyard to the Jones Springs Methodist Church in 1998.
