The cemetery was founded in 1917 and was associated with the Belgian Nation Parish of the Sacred Heart Church, commonly called the Belgian Sacred Heart Church. The church was used until 1994, then demolished in April of 1995.
A "Grotto of St. Boniface", an exact replicate of the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes in Lourdes, France, was built here in 1936, but was demolished after the devastating 1950 flood.
Inside the cemetery is a monument installed by the Belgian Veterans Association (Local 107) to commemorate Belgians who were killed during military service in the First World, Second World, and Korean Wars.

A part of the Belgian community's story in Saint-Boniface and Winnipeg from the early days of European settlement through roughly 1968 is told in the volume "Saint-Boniface, Manitoba, Canada, anniversary year 1818-1968", especially starting on page 27. A free digital version of this and many other Manitoba local history books can be found online in the University of Manitoba Digital Collections. There is also a list of such books organized by district and town name on the Manitoba Historical Society's website on their page entitled "Finding Aid: Manitoba Local History Books".
A list of burials in this cemetery is available from the Manitoba Genealogical Society (reference #0838), transcribed by a member or members in 1994. Also available to MGS members is a searchable online database named the "MGS Manitoba Name Index" (or MANI). Some additional information is contained in the 1996 MGS publication "Carved in Stone: Manitoba Cemeteries and Burial Sites" (revised edition, Special Projects Publication, 106 pages).
The St Boniface Historical Society maintains extensive records of the lives led by and influences of the people in Manitoba who had French ancestry, be it recently from France and Belgium, or by way of Quebec.
