This is taken from the road. There is no sign for this cemetery.I went back out there again today. I spoke with the lady that bought the property. She gave me some wonderful information. She said when she purchased the property a few years ago, it was so grown up, she didn't even know she had bought a cemetery! They spent a year cleaning out the brush and cutting the grass. When she realized she could not keep doing it, her daughter contacted the state of KY and asked them whey they are not maintaining it. She also contacted the Masons. They came out and looked around and found a grave that the government had been looking for for years. It is of Pvt Adam Nichols from the Civil War. They had a big ceremony and placed a new stone on the grave. Now the state HAS to keep the cemetery cleaned up. While all of this was going on, there were family members that were upset by the way the cemetery was being kept so they relocated their family members elsewhere. That explains why there are these large impressions in the ground all over the cemetery. I did rubbings on all the graves that had any words. Unfortunately, there alot of graves towards the back that are worn flat. Also, while the grass was all grown up, it left mold, moss, green residue, orange residue on them. That would explain why some graves were photographed just 5 years ago and now they look so bad. As far as the lady is aware, there is no plot map of the cemetery. Unfortunately, it looks like there is no way to identify the remaining graves with broken stone, turned over stones or worn away stones. She also told me that during the Civil War, troops actually camped in the field behind the cemetery. On my way home I stopped at a funeral home in E-town. I asked them about a plot map. He said only the large cemeteries keep plot maps with the row, section etc. To top it all off. The Hardin County Court House had a huge fire in the early 1900's and a lot of records were lost. So, today has been an eventful day. The owner is working on getting a sign, U.S. Flag and the stairway cleaned out.
