Bethany Cemetery is one of three cemeteries belonging to Our Saviour's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Norge, Virginia. This cemetery was originally part of Bethany Lutheran Church (a Norwegian congreation) which was formed in the early 1900's as a result of a disagreement between church members of the Zion Lutheran Church (also Norwegian) in Norge. In 1932 the two congregations reunited to form Our Saviour's Lutheran Church using the original Zion Church building for worship. The Bethany Church was used as a parish house of Our Saviour's until 1978 when the building and parking lot portion of the property were sold to Williamsburg Mennonite Church. The adjoining cemetery portion of the property remained and is still under the ownership of Our Saviour's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Bethany Cemetery is the final resting place for many of the original Scandinavian people that settled in this area beginning in the late 1800's and for their descendants. It continues to serve current and past members of Our Saviour's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
