Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church at Marion was established in 1812. At first it was a Reformed/Lutheran Congregation and was called Salem's Church. In 1877 the German Reformed congregation dedicated Heidelberg Reformed Church in Marion, ending the combined congregation.
The original church building was made of limestone and the exterior finished with white stucco. Because of this the church at that time was also referred to as the "White Church". In 1950, Salem Church was expanded toward the road and a basement excavated in to provide additional Sunday School rooms, a kitchen and bathrooms.
The cemetery "surrounds" the church on three sides and is now extending out on the west side. As you approch the church from PA Route 16 you cannot see much of the cemetery until you pass the church building.
You can find Salem Evangelical by taking PA Route 11 south from Chambersburg or north from Greencastle. After turning on Miller Road the church is situated 1/4 mile on the right.
