Bio

I became a Find A Grave Volunteer through my interest in Ancestry. Most of my requests were for a small cemetery near my home. It had no linear listing so every time I had a request I had to walk the entire cemetery about 1000 graves. So I decided to make a cemetery list by section and row and photograph each grave. What I discovered was the cemetery was only about half photographed. I used my photographs to add memorials and my Ancestry membership to update the scanty information on the existing memorials and to note veteran graves. It was a lengthy process but very educational and informative. I learned a lot about the families in my small community. Now every year we use the linear list to put out flags to honor veterans on Memorial Day. It has been a great experience. I have also had several successes for distant family members that had been searching for a missing member and finally were connected through my efforts. That is very satisfying.
Anyone is free to use my photographs and I will gladly transfer maintenance of any memorial to a family member.
I am also a member of Centenarians of Oklahoma. We honor Oklahoma citizens who have reached the age of 100 years or more with an award certificate, a biography and a Golden Okie Pin (at no cost). When our members pass on, I add their biography to their FG Memorial and then their file is sent to the Oklahoma Historical Society as a permanent part of Oklahoma History.
