DIES IN COUNTRY'S SERVICE
Ernest W. Stone, Former Local Publisher, Dies at Camp Devens
Ernest W. Stone, 28, until three weeks ago, manager of the Real Estate Press, died Friday night at Camp Devens after being only a short time in the military servive. Death was due to bronchial pneumonia, which is believed to have its origin in an attack of influnza, which is just now prevalant, about Boston and Camp Devens. The body was brough to Greenfield yesterday escorted by Sargt. Joseph Tierney of Camp Devens, and the funeral was held at the house this afternoon. Rev. Margaret Barnard of Bernardston conducting the service. The burial was in Green River cemetery.
Mr. Stone was a native of Rowe and after leaving school learned the printing business. For many years ----- ---- ---- Vt. Times, but had recently come to Greenfield to take charge of the Real Estate Press. Since that company had published the Greenfield News he had acted as advertising manager.When first called in the draft he was given a deferred classifacation but within a month was reclassified and was sent to Camp Devens. He is survived by his mother, Mrs Hattie Holbrook, of Los Angeles, Cal, a sister, Mrs Edward Palley in Chicago -----A brother Sela H. Holbrook (last two line unreadable.)

The funeral of Ernest W. Stone of 11 Spring Terrace who died last week at Camp Devens took place at the home Wednesday afternoon, Rev Margaret Barnard of Bernardston, officiating. Burial was in Green River cemetery.Prvt. Stone's death was due to pneumonia, followng it is beleived an attack of the Spanish influenza which occured 24 hours after he was taken to the hospital. Prtv. Stone was a native of Rowe, born on December 4, 1890 and in June 1917, married Miss Pauline Hicks of Rowe. Besides his wife he leaves his mother, Mrs. Hattie Holbrook, at present in Los Angeles, Cal., a sister Mrs. William Dudley Palley of Springfield. he also leaves a half brother and sister, ???? Holbrook, living at 414 Deerfield street and Sarah Holbrook of Springfield. besides these are an aunt, Mrs G. A. Christie of Rowe, two uncles, Warren Waste, living at 34 Pond street and Charles H. Waste of Jacksonville, Vt. and four cousins, Henry T. Waste in the Aviation services and now in london, Eng., Mrs. R. C. Elmer of Everett, Mrs. Leonard Brown of Wilminington, Vt., and Harry Waste of Jacksonville, Vt.
