G.A.R. Members See President.
The Emporia visit of Franklin D. Roosevelt gave two women of the local Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic their third opportunity to see a president of the United States. Mrs. Zerelda (sic) Fowler and Mrs. Callie Bausman, who were at the station Tuesday when the special train came through, saw both President Lincoln and President Grant many years ago. Each woman is a widow of Civil war veterans, and each is 69 years old. The circle's monthly social meeting was held Thursday afternoon in the G.A.R. hall at the courthouse. Mrs. Iva Jackson reported the national convention of the Grand Army of the Republic and its affiliated organizations, held recently in Washington, D.C. Mrs. Minnie Shirley and members of her committee were hostesses for the meeting. Twenty members were present.

Birth date is per cemetery record; however, Ancestry.com lists birth date as 03 Dec 1850, as well as last name spelled. Obit says birth in Norman Co, IL, but there isn't a county with that name.
