"Uncle Gabe" Osborn, brief mention of whose death was made in last week's issue of this paper, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 12th after some days of illness. His general health had been poor for some years and his advanced age made resistance to sickness impossible.
Gabriel R. Osborn was born in Buchanan county, Missouri, Jan. 2nd, 1837. He lived there until 19 years of age. He was married Aug. 29th, 1861, to Margaret McHone in Greenwood county, Kansas. To them were born five children, Linda, Louise, Minnie, William and Edgar. The latter died in infancy, the other four, with the wife and mother, surviving Mr. Osborn. Numerous grandchildren also survive.
He served as a scout and guide during the earlier part of the Civil War in Capt. P. Baynes company, the records showing that his service covered the period from Aug. 25th, 1861, to Dec. 16th, 1861. The company was disbanded on the latter date.
Funeral services were conducted at his home in North Rock Port, Friday, Nov. 14th, at 10 o'clock a.m, by Rev. J.J. Cokely, interment taking place at Milsap cemetery.
