William was the son of Joseph A. & Margaret (Parks) James. William's mother died a couple of days after giving birth to him and his father died shortly after that. He and his siblings went to live with relatives. William married Mary Ann Wack on October 27, 1859 in Hancock County, Illinois where some of the other James family members had migrated to. His brother, Hugh James, is buried in this cemetery also.
