Chester F. Turner, retired farmer of 105 Cooter Road in Steele died last Thursday at the hospital in Hayti after a long illness. He was 90.
Mr. Turner was born September 26, 1876 in Pontotoc, Miss., the son of George and Pernetta Salmon Turner. He had lived in this community for 42 years.
Services weere held November 19, 1966 at the First Baptist Church in Steele, Rev. Bill Cook of St. Charles officiating, assisted by Rev. James F. McCrary. Burial was in Mount Zion Cemetery, German Funeral Home in charge.
Pallbearers were Bynum Hester, Johnnie Carter, Howard McCollum, J.F. Hankins, Pinnell Capehart, and Walter Holly, Jr.
Mr. Turner leaves five sons: B.G. Turner and Gale Turner of Steele; Cleo Turner of Clarkton, Mo.; M.G. Turner of Deering; John Paul Turner of Hornersville; and four daughters: Mrs. Amma Mitchell, Mrs. Amy Inman, Mrs. Lillian McDaniel and Mrs. Myrtle Mae McCollum, all of Steele; 21 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; a brother, O.H. Turner of St. Louis; and two sisters: Mrs. Ann Lindsey of Kennett and Mrs. Loy Lindsey of Pontotoc, Miss. He leaves one great-great-grandchild.
